We are a team of high school debaters dedicated to making high-quality debate education accessible and giving the next generation of debaters a reliable foundation of skills.
Our coaches have reached elimination rounds at the Harvard, Stanford, and University of Michigan national tournaments, and qualified to top-level national tournaments such as NSDA Nationals and the Tournament of Champions Gold division.
All our instructors are National Speech and Debate Association Scholars with Superior Distinction and NSDA Academic All-Americans.
Our name, Avis Debate, comes from an incident at the 2023 Washington State Tournament involving a bird. It is also because we will help you fly to new heights.
Aileen has been debating for 3 years at Interlake High School. In addition to competing, she also had the opportunity to teach debate to our middle schoolers. Outside of debate, she enjoys listening to music and binge-watching Netflix! She’s very excited to work at Avis this year!
Kerra considers herself a traditional debater and mainly compete in locals on the Eastern Missouri circuit (super lay). That being said, she loves circuit tournaments. She attended the National Symposium for Debate and is a two time NSDA and NCFL National Tournament qualifier. She has been teaching PF for 2 years as PF captain.
On the circuit, her biggest achievement this year was placing 5th at Stanford, the largest PF tourney my team has been to, as well as placing 6th at this year's National Catholic Forensics League Tournament! Off the circuit, she has experience in a plethora of events such as speech. She considers herself a very adaptive debater, but she emphasizes flay debating since it keeps this event accessible!
We also have several more award-winning instructors willing to help out! Over time, we will add staffing to match student demand.
